WTF! Ride the Range Part 2 and BARBEQUES!

Howdy wranglers, Those of you who lived to ride again... know that words can not describe all that stampeded through Chebucto Coffee last time when Bronco Annie Fearon guest hosted Cowboy night.

Case in point...The Bluenose Buckaroo!

Disappointment was palpable when the evening came to a close with so much more music and stories left to share. So... being suckers for cowboys in tears and too cheap to pay for drycleaning all that buckskin... we decided that this week we would continue with the cowboy theme along with the planned celebration of our first year at Chebucto Coffee which had to be postponed back in February.

On Friday, April 26th... WTF! will be riding the range once more AND paying tribute to that rangey old cowpoke with the great sense of humour... Chebucto Mike McInnis... who twice monthly for the past year has not only provided us with a welcoming setting in which to indulge in our particular brand of artistic lunacy but has also played a major role in creating it. Case in point... Cousin Jarge.

Please join us as we toast and/or roast our beloved host... Chebucto Mike. Mike has generously offered to hold a BARBECUE with all proceeds above expenses going to the Helen Creighton Folklore Society.
Feel free to channel your inner cowboy/cowgirl. Or not. Channel someone or something else that you think Mike would like. Or not. Perhaps a song or story ABOUT a Mike or one that reminds you of this PARTICULAR Mike. Be kind. Or not?
And in parting... ... ever since a man rode a horse... there has been cowboy wisdom. Cowboys have a way of lookin' at things a little differently than the rest of us... so tonight... while you're chawin' & jawin' 'round the ole chuckwagon... ... some advice.
 * Always drink upstream from the herd.
 * Always take a good look at what you’re about to eat. It’s not so important to know what it is, but it’s critical to know what it was.
 * And don't worry about bitin' off more'n you can chew; your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think.
And probably the most important of all... NEVER squat with your spurs on... unless of course... you're deliberately goin' for that high lonesome sound.

 Xo Margo

WTF! Rides the Range with guest host Ann Fearon!

Ann was terrified!
She was running for her life... breathless with fear... desperate to evade the thing or things that were now closing in on her as she stumbled through the deep dark woods trying to find the path that led to home and safety. I WISH YOU COULD SEE HER HEART! "What was I thinking?" she moaned.

A MOTORCYCLE RIDE this late in the season was one thing but wearing a long fringed buckskin skirt while driving was just asking for trouble. Not that the cowboys back at the LOVE AND LET GO saloon were complaining mind you when she stopped in to ask for directions. Au contraire. They were a CONSTELLATION of attentiveness and advice. "Put the pedal to the metal and ride steady AS THE CROW FLIES", they'd said. Still... she was doing 110 when she smucked the OMEN CROW as it flew across her path and what came next was kind of confusing although the defringed remnants of her skirt certainly tried to fill in the blanks.
But now... the OCTOBER SUN had long since set on the twisted metal tangled among the last vestiges of ROADSIDE FLOWERS. This was certainly a NEW KIND OF GARDEN but not one in which bloomed THE FLOWER of LOVE. What was definitely in full bloom however was Ann's terror as she felt hot breath upon her heels again. "Damn those HIGH HEELED SHOES! I should have known they'd be my downfall". Sure they had looked pretty racy in the mall but now they were slowing her down big time when she really needed to boot it.
The hot breath was gaining and Ann knew that she'd never make the BACK DOOR of the old homestead in time. "All I wanted was to go home to the family, PUT THE KETTLE ON and have me a slice of the FISHERMAN'S WIFE's good old SUGAR PIE. I guess WHEN YOU'RE GONE, you're gone. I hope they DON'T FORGET ME".
As the hot breath... make that "bad breath"... enveloped her, Ann thought that there was something familiar about it. And didn't it also have a certain WILLIAMS FAMILY SOUND? "Good grief!", she muttered, as it became clear to her what had been dogging her heels all along. It wasn't a monster. It wasn't the cowboys. It was only old WRECKING BALL, her long neglected palomino pony playing tricks on her.
So... when her breathing had returned to normal, Ann hiked up what was left of her skirt... mounted her stalwart steed and triumphantly ascended MCGLINCHEY HILL. She distinctly felt a yodel coming on.

Hi gang, On Friday, April 12th, WTF! welcomes guest host Ann Fearon.
The little story above was written (with permission... although liberties were taken using all the titles (Those in CAPS) of songs written and recorded by Ann. Some may be quite familiar. Others appear on her second CD which will be officially released in the Fall at the Rose & Kettle Concert Sessions. Details at: roseandkettleconcertsessions.blogspot.com/

At WTF though... Ann will be channeling her inner cowgirl. Ann's chosen theme is cowboy/cowgirl songs... songs written for, about and/or by the same. And stories too of course
So...whether you're between the hay & the grass... get a wiggle on... throw up the sponge... and join the whole kit and kaboodle down at the chuckwagon. If that don't take the rag off... nothin' will!
 Xo Margo
