WTF: Persistence and Change instead of War.

Hi all,

Well... a change is in the air in more ways than one. Those of you in attendance last time went away excited to prepare war songs and stories for our next WTF! on May 24th where guest hosts Jon Stone and Jay Perry were planning to stage the War of 1812... or at least some memorable exerpts. Unfortunately... we have to move the war into June as Jon will be AWOL on the 24th. I say a court marshall is in order

Cindy; however... for personal reasons close to her heart...  disagrees. So... while Cindy and I debate Jon's fate...( she's leaning heavily into keeping Jon from the gallows and I'm feeling in need of some gallows humour ) ... I toss out the theme of...
PERSISTENCE & CHANGE.

COME ALL YE FAIR AND TENDER LADIES. Weep no more. Even though your sweet JACK MUNROE has travelled over 10,000 MILES clutching his BROKEN TOKEN to his breast as THE GREEN WILLOW TREE founders off THE COAST OF HIGH BARBAREE... at least he's not *BLOWIN' IN THE WIND at the end of a rope like poor GEORDIE. I guess it's true... meat will be the death of you

Margo

But it's not too late to change. * Robert Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan was born on May 24th 1941. On Friday, May 24th, 2013... join all of us at WTF! as we sing Happy 72nd Birthday to a man who not only epitomized the hedonistic culture of the 1960s but... reinvented himself with every successive decade and is still... fourty-odd years later... a vibrant musical force . If that's not persistence....

WTF! is an artistic outreach program of the Helen Creighton Folklore
Society. We meet every second and fourth Friday of the month at

WTF! Goes Cultural

Ciamar a tha sibh? Since May is officially Gaelic Awareness Month...on Friday, May 10th...WTF! will be going totally Gaelic.
GASP!
I knew that would get your attention.

Although a Gaelic extravaganza would be appealing to perhaps three of us ... WTF! wishes to remain all inclusive and asks that you bring a song or story from your OWN heritage... a beloved hand-me-down or perhaps something home-made.

A lot of Gaelic songs stem from leaving the old country, the voyage over and the struggles to adjust in "the land of the trees". Unless you are of Mi'kmaq descent... your ancestors arrived by sea too so we are ALL officially boat people
So... think about your forebears, who they were, where they came from, why they came and what happened to them when they got here.
Stories and songs abound!
Choose one (or more) that resonates with you and feel free to tell us why.

We Gaels are a magnanimous lot and will happily share a portion of our month getting cultured.
