WTF: What The Folk! Sing Out! Tell Out!

Hello gang...

It's January! It's cold! It's dark early! It's enough to make one want to end it all! And so we shall.

On Friday, January 22nd... WTF! will be getting into the SING of things.

We are hosting a good old-fashioned
Sing Out!
guaranteed to give our spirits a boost and those winter doldrums the boot.

Remember The Travellers?

Well there are lots more sing-a-long songs where that came from in the hearts & voices of our exalted WTF! musical multitude. There will be no particular theme. The subject matter is wide open. The only requirement is that your song (or story) has a chorus or a part where everyone can join in.

Whether your selections be from the 1960s or the 1660s...
Whether you wrote them yourself years ago or only yesterday....
If they have a chorus... we want them.

We invite you to channel your inner "Traveller" and join in as we raise our voices to raise the roof... well maybe not literally... we don't want to destroy property... but we WILL be aiming for creating enough thermal energy inside Spencer House to at least melt the snow off :)

"Oh there's something to sing about, tune up a string about,
call out in chorus or quietly hum...."

WTF! is an artistic outreach program of the Helen Creighton Folklore Society. Now in its 7th year, WTF! is primarily an acoustic unplugged open-mike session for performers of all ages in the traditional & folk music vein... singers, instrumentalists and storytellers in particular.

Co-hosted by the ever-jovial Cindy Campbell-Stone & Margo Carruthers with occasional guest hosts, WTF! meets every second and fourth Friday of the month at SPENCER HOUSE, 5596 Morris Street in Halifax where sing-a-longs are known to spontaneously erupt and laughter is always a given.

Come anytime after 6:30pm. Entertainment starts around 7:00 and goes until 9:00ish. As always... admission is by free-will donation towards the Society's work. All proceeds from the sale of baked goods and beverages from the Spencer House kitchen will go to help support the operation of Spencer House.

Parking is available on site behind the building after 6:00pm, and on all the neighbouring streets.

WTF: What The Folk! gets KARMIC for 2016

Hello gang!

Well... the new year is upon us and while many of us might not be willing to admit it... most, if not all of us... are wondering what 2016 will bring.

To some... a new year is just the switching of calendars, but for others... passing into a new year is like passing through a veil into a new realm full of hope and new opportunities. It's a time for introspection and resolutions but it is also a time many choose to try to predict what's to come.

For example... I predict that WTF! will be back on Friday, January 8th. While there won't be a specific theme... some folks will definitely bring songs or stories that may or may not relate to the karmic ideas above. There will be much hugging, laughter, story exchanges and a free-for-all of musical magic.

I also predict that those of you who choose to couch potato the night away at home will be dissed... oops! So sorry... typo! I meant pissed... oops! That goes without saying; however...

... what I meant to say is... you will be... MISSED!!
