Home is where the WTF:What the Folk heart is...

First of all... Cindy & I would like to thank all of you who so generously participated in our first ever fundraising initiative... the IRISH benefit night for Spencer House... either through a monetary contribution or through the donation of talent OR... in many cases... through both :)

It was a wonderful turnout with some fabulous music. Don't fret if you missed it. There is more where that came from :)

On Friday, April 22nd... WTF!  Welcomes the ever gracious Jim Smith as guest host.

Jim is an educator, entertainer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, a natural raconteur and a really nice guy.

Jim has chosen the theme of  HOME.

As he told me... There are lots of songs about people home sick, homeless, leaving home, going home, homely:-) etc.

And you can bring along something home spun. Maybe spin some yarns :)

And keep the home fries burning. It's gonna be a smokin' hot night you don't want to miss.

WTF! is an artistic outreach program of the Helen Creighton Folklore Society.
Now in its 7th year, WTF!
is primarily an acoustic unplugged open-mike session for performers of all ages in the traditional & folk music vein... singers, instrumentalists and storytellers in particular.

Co-hosted by the ever-jovial Cindy Campbell-Stone & Margo Carruthers with occasional guest hosts, WTF!

meets every second and fourth Friday of the month at Spencer House Community Centre, 5596 Morris Street in Halifax where sing-a-longs are known to spontaneously erupt and laughter is always a given.

Come anytime after 6:30pm. Entertainment starts around 7:00
and goes until 9:00ish. As always... admission is by free-will donation
towards the Society's work. All proceeds from the sale of baked goods and beverages from the Spencer House kitchen will go to help support the operation of Spencer House.

Parking is available on site behind the building after 6:00pm, and on all the neighbouring streets.

ECMA's Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to Jack O'Donnell!

From the CBC website:

For O'Donnell, the lifetime achievement award is that much more special, given it bears Creighton's name.

"She stayed in contact. I used to visit her. And she used to come down and talk to my classes in folk music at St. F.X.," he said.

"She was a great support for me and the Men of the Deeps until she died in 1989."
