WTF:What the Folk! The Beatles or The Beetles or other inspirations

Hello gang,

If you were there... you know what I mean. We had the most wonderful turnout of regulars and newcomers for our inaugural WTF! night at Wright House and Cindy and I would like to express our sincere appreciation for both your support and your patience.  It was touch & go at times in the kitchen; however, everyone survived!

Our second WTF! night in this fabulous new venue just happens to fall on February 9th." What is so special about February 9th?", you may well be asking. Well... if you have to ask...then you weren't there... glued to your family's T.V. set as musical history was made.

Sunday, February 9th, 1964

marked the first appearance of

** LIVE **

on the Ed Sullivan Show.

An estimated 73.3 million Americans gathered around television sets

to see what all the excitement was about.

Now I don't expect that we will be able to top that number at WTF! [ although we came close last week ] but let's see how many folks we can entice to bring some Beatles memorabilia in the form of a song or a story. Maybe even a personal anecdote about where you were and what you were doing a little past 8 pm on Sunday February 9, 1964 when John, Paul, George and Ringo... four young lads from Liverpool, took the stage in what was to become the touchstone event for an entire generation.

For those who dare to wear an Edwardian suit or... for those who still have hair... a mop top haircut.

And if The Beatles are not your thing... then think outside the literal box and go for songs and stories about beetles or other bugs or how about car songs or stories about a beloved Volkswagon Beetle? You are never locked into the theme unless you want to be :)

NOTE: We hope to have the coffee & tea brewing considerably faster this week and the treats will all be home-made courtesy of Nancy Jarrett. Anyone who has never before tasted Nancy's guilty pleasures will immediately be asking... "Why isn't Jim Smith the size of a house?" :)

meets every second and fourth Friday of the month at the historic George Wright House [aka the Local Council of Women's House] located on the corner of Inglis Street and Young Avenue in the south end of Halifax where sing-a-longs are known to spontaneously erupt and laughter is a given.

Come anytime after 6:30pm. Entertainment starts at 7:00
and goes until 9:00. As always... admission is by free-will donation
towards the Society's work.

there are four bus routes that pass by the corner of South Park, Young and Inglis during our time line - #14 and #29 plus the University Routes #10, and #18. The #7 comes as close as the corner of South Park and South.
